Excerpt from 'In Search of Our Mother's Garden' by Alice Walker
'In Search of Our Mother's Garden' was my introduction to Womanism and Black academia as a whole. It was assigned as a reading in my AP Literature class in my senior year of high school, and it was the first time I felt seen and loved in academia. I had never known that those were things you could feel with any sort of writing, let alone academia. Personally, it represents a lot on my views of spirtuality and marks the start of my journey with womanism.
